SoundCloud paused the automatic connection that let download gates require a like, repost, comment, or follow before a free download. On Hypeddit and similar tools, those steps are now optional, so fans can skip them and still grab the file. The actions were not removed – but the durable way to gain real reposts and followers is being featured by active SoundCloud channels.
If your Hypeddit gate stopped pulling follows and reposts, you are not imagining it. On June 11, 2026, SoundCloud changed how third-party download gates connect to it, and the effect hit overnight. Below is what changed, what still works, and how artists keep growing on SoundCloud without forced gates.
What changed with SoundCloud download gates
SoundCloud paused the automatic connection that download gates used to rely on. Before, a fan had to log in with SoundCloud and agree to like, repost, comment, or follow before they could download the track. Now that step is optional, so the fan can download either way.
A download gate is a link that trades a free track for a small action. For years the SoundCloud action was forced, which is what made gates useful for artists. Hypeddit explained it plainly in its announcement. The tool “still prompts fans to repost, like, and follow, but they can grab the download whether they do it or not.”
The practical result is fewer follows and reposts per download. You still see some engagement, but only from fans who choose to act. That is a real drop for anyone who used gates as a growth engine.
Is it only Hypeddit, or are all download gates affected
This is not a Hypeddit-only problem. The change is on SoundCloud’s side, so any tool that relied on the same forced-action API is exposed. Hypeddit announced it first because it is the biggest name, but it is not alone.
Valorizd showed its users an in-app notice confirming the same thing. It reads: “SoundCloud Connect Unavailable. We’re sorry to inform you that the SoundCloud Connect feature is currently unavailable. This is due to unexpected changes to SoundCloud’s API, which occurred without any prior notice. We have implemented a manual action system that users can use as an alternative.”

Two separate tools reporting the same kind of change within the same window. So if you are weighing one gate tool against another to get automatic follows back, that is the wrong question. The automatic step is what changed, not which tool you pick.
Why did SoundCloud pause the download gate API
SoundCloud has not posted a detailed public statement, so treat any single reason with care. The clearest account comes from Hypeddit, which described its SoundCloud API connection as paused and framed the cause as pressure on what third-party tools are allowed to do. In its words, “sometimes streaming platforms have to navigate pressure from parts of the industry around what third-party tools integrate with their platforms.”
Here is the part that is still an open question. The actions were not removed from SoundCloud. Hypeddit still prompts fans to like, repost, and follow, and Valorizd built a manual action system so fans can do the same by hand. SoundCloud has not announced removing anything, so the change looks aimed at how these tools applied the actions automatically, not at the actions themselves.
Why these tools, and exactly what SoundCloud changed, is not confirmed. Hypeddit said it stays in contact with SoundCloud and is hopeful about what comes next, and nobody has shared a timeline. I would not bet a release plan on the automatic steps returning soon.
What still works, and what changed
Plenty of the gate still works. What changed is narrow but important: the SoundCloud actions are no longer forced. Likes, reposts, comments, and follows still happen when a fan chooses them, but they are not required to download, so the numbers fall.
Here is the simple split as of June 2026:
| Still works | No longer forced |
|---|---|
| Email capture before download | SoundCloud likes (now optional) |
| Spotify, Apple Music, and other platform steps | SoundCloud reposts (now optional) |
| Smart links and pre-saves | SoundCloud comments (now optional) |
| Campaign history and analytics | SoundCloud follows (now optional) |
Email capture is the piece worth leaning on now. A fan’s email is yours to keep, and it does not depend on the SoundCloud connection that changed. Adding a Spotify follow step also helps if you release there, since it pulls growth that the SoundCloud change does not touch.
How to get reposts and followers on SoundCloud now
The honest answer is the one that predates download gates: get your track in front of real audiences through channels that already have them. Forced gates were always a shortcut. They handed you a follow from someone who only wanted the file, not your music.
I run a SoundCloud label called Märked, and I have leaned on the other route for ten years. We grew to more than 19,000 followers through premieres and reposts, not gates. A premiere is when a channel uploads your track first, to its own audience. A repost is when an established channel shares your existing upload to its followers.
The reason this still works is simple. A repost from a channel with a real audience reaches people who chose to follow that channel for music like yours. That is genuine reach, not a hollow click from a gate. SoundCloud promotion through channels is underrated, and this change makes it the obvious play again.
There is even a strange economics to it that outsiders rarely notice. In the premiere model the artist provides the track and pays for the placement, and the channel gets paid and gets free content to post. It works only because channel reach is genuinely valuable to artists. I resisted that model for years before I understood why it holds up.
What artists should do next
Stop chasing forced follows and start booking real reach. Forced gates are not coming back on a known timeline. The time you spend hunting another gate tool is time you could spend getting featured by channels in your genre.
That is the gap Premierely fills. It is a booking marketplace where artists and labels submit tracks to SoundCloud channels for premieres and reposts, and channels manage those bookings in one place. It runs on real channels reposting to real audiences, so the SoundCloud API change does not touch how it works. Premierely also has download gates if you want them, but the durable engine is the channel marketplace.
I did not build it from a survey. I built it as the person running Märked, after handling more than 550 premieres and 2,000 promotion requests by hand. Every Märked premiere still runs through it daily. If you want a softer start, the free SoundCloud tools are a low-risk first step, and you can compare the gate tools directly in our Hypeddit alternatives guide.
Common questions about the SoundCloud gate change
Why is my Hypeddit gate not working?
Your gate still loads and downloads still happen. What changed is that the SoundCloud like, repost, comment, and follow steps are now optional. Fans can skip them, so your follow and repost counts per download drop.
Can people bypass the Hypeddit download gate now?
For the SoundCloud action, effectively yes. The download no longer requires the follow or repost, so a fan can take the file without acting. Email and other platform steps still work as designed.
Did SoundCloud remove download gates entirely?
No. Download gates still exist and still deliver files. SoundCloud paused the automatic connection that applied the social actions, so the gates lost the automatic step, not their delivery.
Do the like and repost actions still work?
The actions are still available. Fans can still like, repost, comment, and follow – Hypeddit still prompts these steps and Valorizd added a manual system for them. What changed is that the gate tools no longer apply them automatically. SoundCloud has not detailed the change.
Is Hypeddit worth it now?
It depends on what you need. For email capture, smart links, pre-saves, and Spotify steps, it still does its job. The automatic SoundCloud follows and reposts are paused for now, so weigh it on the features that remain.
What does “SoundCloud Connect Unavailable” mean on Valorizd?
It is Valorizd’s notice for the same SoundCloud API change. The SoundCloud Connect feature that forced actions is paused, and Valorizd switched to a manual action system in its place.
